Whenever the subject of aviation comes up, the name of Glycine is mentioned as one of the pioneers of watchmaking for pilots and frequent travelers. Beginning in 1953, Glycine started production of the Airman, a watch that became legendary for introducing multiple time-zone watches to the market. Since then, Glycine has developed an unbroken chain of aviation watches, ranging from successively more complex world timers to unique collectors items. Remaining true to its heritage the Airman No 1 from Glycine is an iconic, classic pilots watch that's made with modern materials to today's standards but replicates its original predecessor. The case is 36mm wide polished stainless steel with an automatic modified Swiss ETA 2893-2 movement set in a solid screwed steel back. The dial has a domed Hesalite crystal and a special locking outer rotating bezel with 24 hour scale for use in telling time in a second timezone and a 24-hour scale to track a third time zone. The Airman No. 1 provides reliable time with a power reserve of 42 hours and screw-down crown to insure safe wearing of up to 100 meters underwater. Glycine can boast that its professional pilot watches are coveted by actual pilots -- a rare feature among the legions of “professional” watches out there.
